Plant Propagator Extraordinaire
This position would serve an integral role in increasing community benefits and ecological biodiversity for Hayes Valley Farm. The responsibilities include but are not limited to managing, coordinating and facilitating the operation of our farm greenhouse.
This is an excellent position for someone who is eager to get their hands dirty and become the seed, the catalyst for an entire growing community to thrive.
Internship Starts: ASAP & Internship Ends: Mid to Late Nov/DecSkills Desired: Strong communication skills. Must be organized. Computer literacy highly valued, especially email. High level of social intelligence, ability to work in a team environment. Plant propagation, greenhouse management, drip-irrigation operations, seed starting techniques, and optimism.
Educational Opportunities: IT'S ALL HANDS ON! You are encouraged to do your own reading, ask questions, but most importantly, roll up your sleeves and dive in! Initial training and orientation will be provided.
Internship Details: Work with the Site Manager and Director of Operations to envision, plan, design and propagation strategy that meets the plant needs of our community. 8-12 hours / week with flexibility allowed.
This will include:
- Plant Propagation
- Preparing soil blocking mixture, working potting line, transplanting (potting up)
- Watering
- Regular watering of seedlings, plants and outdoor nursery
- Adjustment of automatic irrigation timers as neccesary
- Administration
- Regular powows with Site Manager
- Label Plants, Document # of plants produced, what worked well, what didn't
- Keeping Inventory of Seeds, Plants and Trees
- Reordering supplies / materials when neccessary
- Tie, tag, price, etc., to prepare for market or give away.
- Education
- Teach occasional nursery and propagation classes
- Create resiliency by facilitating community involvement and care of the greenhouse

Events and Promotions Intern
Public Relations & Website Editor Intern
This position would serve an integral role in the Marketing and Public Relations for Hayes Valley Farm. The responsibilities include but are not limited to capturing on-site activity for online media, public relations with local media, and social media messaging.
This is an excellent position for someone who is eager to make a positive impact on the planet while practicing public relations, online marketing, community building and communication skills.
Internship Starts: Early to Mid August & Internship Ends: Mid to Late Nov/DecSkills Desired: Strong communication skills. Must be organized. Computer literacy highly valued, especially email. High level of social intelligence, ability to work in a team environment. Graphic Design a plus. Social Media Experience(Flickr, Blogging, Twitter, Facebook). Self-confidence, energy, enthusiasm. Personal integrity, good time management skills

Internship Details: Work with the Marketing Director to envision, plan, design and execute a marketing strategy that raises awareness of our project while encouraging our community members to participate in the activities and abundance surrounding Hayes Valley Farm. 8-12 hours / week with flexibility allowed.
This will include:
- Website Editor - manage and edit website content to ensure regular flow of new, exciting, innovative and relevant stories for our community
- Communication with the public - being a source of information to our partners (contacts, outreach collaborators, networks) regarding events and initiatives both on-site and online.
- PR Liason and Press Contact - Focus on approaching local blogs, print publications, etc. to build strong relationships and send consistent stream of press releases. Follow up with press releases and campaigns, etc.
- Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, etc.) - keep up with tagging, provide comments to build resiliency in our network of neighbors, friends and supporters.
