Spring & Summer 2011 Internship

This position would serve an integral role in the realm of community participation and youth education at Hayes Valley Farm. The responsibilities include but are not limited to capturing on-site activity for online media through photography, blogging, etc., organize and maintain youth education materials, solicit donations for needs of the Youth Education Program, collaborate with seasoned educators on curriculum development and direct facilitation on-site, grants and fundraising to support the cultivation of youth education opportunities connected to the urban agricultural movement.

This is an excellent position for someone who is eager to make a positive impact on the planet while practicing horticultural, nature-based education, community building and communication skills.

Dates of Internships:

Spring Season Intern | March 1, 2011 - June 1, 2011
Summer Season Intern | June 1, 2011 - September 1, 2011

  • Educational Opportunities:

IT'S ALL HANDS ON! You are encouraged to do your own reading, ask questions, but most importantly, roll up your sleeves and dive in! Initial training, orientation and team retreat will be organized.

Internship Details:

Work with the program and site directors to envision, plan, design and execute an educational strategy that encourages community members, local schools and other organizations to participate in the educational opportunities at Hayes Valley Farm. 8-12 hours / week with flexibility allowed.

This will include but is not limited to:

  • Urban permaculture design experiential education
  • Garden planning and cultivation
  • Hosting and leading educational tours for visiting individuals and organizations
  • Planning, development and management of nature-based educational curriculum for community members, local schools and organizations.
