We will explore and discuss the fundamentals of intensive or "backyard" orchard culture followed by hands on pruning of our new freeway food forest.
Intensive orchard culture is a style of cultivating fruit and nut trees that emphasizes dentisty of trees, small tree stature for easy harvest, and quality of fruit over quantity. Come down and learn about this very appropriate urban method.
In part 1 of the series, we will cover the basics and then make our cuts. This is the very first cut of the tree after it is planted and also the most dramatic. In following parts of the series, held throughout the summer, we will again discuss the basics and then move into the regular maintenance of the trees and summer prunings.
Each year with a new set of trees, we will begin at part 1 of the series and move through it again.
