Written by David Peters French American School shows support for Hayes Valley Farm with "One of more than 60 signs created by third grade students for the fence around the farm". Parent and designer David Peters worked with the third grade teachers and students to design and paint posters/signage intended to communicate what HVF means to them. These will be attached to the fence later this month—watch for announcement of this new gallery-in-the-streets. In a unanimous show of support, the Lower School Parents Board has made a $500 donation for the farm to buy tools like shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows. Progress in the first six weeks at HVF is impressive. The foot-thick mulching of the out-bound rampside has been contoured into berms and planted with New Zealand Red Clover and Fava. Passersby can see these are growing vigorously, adding valuable nutrients in the soil-building phase of this multi-year project. Water bibs were installed, trenches dug, and irrigation piping was laid so that watering this summer will be an easier task. The farm entryway along Laguna Street has been sheetmulched and will be planted very soon. As word of the farm spreads, more tours and visitors are arriving, including the Zero Waste Team from Google's campus headquarters. After delivering two tons of cardboard to use when sheetmulching the Fell St. in-bound rampsides, the Google team stayed to help pot the newly-arrived sapling fruit trees. These 150 trees were severely pruned so that as they awaken from winter dormancy their branches will be low and easy to harvest. The media is captivated by the goings-on at the farm as well.
