After having a few conversations on the subject of our one year anniversary, I was wondering what could be done to make participation in this project I love so much, even easier. My first thought was, more of the same of course! So, to mark the occasion of that anniversary--and to give our tour guides a break from having to repeat the disjointed days and times the gates are open--Hayes Valley Farm will have new hours as we move into the future. Beginning this Sunday, January 9, 2011, the gates will be open from 12:00pm to 5:00pm on Sundays and Thursdays. That is two more hours per week!

This first year has been marked by tremendous efforts on the part of our extended community, and I am personally very grateful. By demonstrating that we can grow a lot more food closer to home, that we can limit our ecological footprint in the process, that we can reduce our climate change gases by remediating the soil and, that we can do all this within an urban environment, we have done something truly revolutionary. To those of you we have not seen in a while, please consider visiting again soon. I suspect that Hayes Valley Farm will have changed a great deal since you saw it last. However, there is much left to do, and I would love for you to be a part of it.

With new public hours making more of a good thing possible, the only thing left to say is, See you at the next work party!
