In case you missed it, Hayes Valley Farm was highlighted in the San Francisco Chronicle two Sundays ago in a feature about "Square 18", the thriving, bustling square mile of the city that includes Alamo Square, Duboce Triangle and even a bit of the inner Mission. The piece highlights Hayes Valley Farm, as the center of this square mile is Hayes Valley, a neighborhood whose transformation from rundown to verdant was every bit as attractive to watch as it was inspiring. The Chronicle set out to find the most iconic food business – rather than solely restaurants – in each square mile of the city. The Proxy in Square 18 is an example of a larger project that involves a few different businesses that has had a huge positive impact on the neighborhood. Just around the corner from us, bordering Patricia's Green, the strip has become a hugely popular gathering space that functions like an extension of the park.
Read the full piece and get more details here. As the Chronicle notes, we've still got the green light to use our space and continue growing food and community – tentatively through June 30th and August 30th, for parcels P and O, respectively. So, come on down and visit us during open hours! They are Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12–5 p.m.
We're also interested in seeing each square 49 miles activated to their full potential. Imagine an urban garden in each one: fresh food, strong community, celebrations and learning together! Check out 49 Farms to learn more about spaces near you that can be activated.
