Farm Film Night: Botany of Desire

In collaboration with Kikim Media and KQED

Feature: Based on Michael Pollan's acclaimed book, Botany of Desire, directed by Michael Schwarz, is a sensuous and eye-opening exploration into the human relationship with plants, trees and flowers, through the lens of four familiar crops: apples, potatoes, tulips and marijuana. Pollan argues that while people assume that we are domesticating plants through agricultural practices, plants might actually be controlling us through evolutionary strategies that satisfy our basic desires for sweetness, control, beauty and intoxication. "We don't give nearly enough credit to plants," says Pollan. "They've been working on us—they've been using us—for their own purposes."
