Hayes Valley Farm is a dynamic setting, drawing folks in with our volunteer days, classes and events. We are a place for farming, growing food, and growing community, combining both hands-on farming with 21st century community building strategies. We are currently seeking design interns who want to create visual and tactile materials to enhance the experience of farm visitors and volunteers.
One design internship is geared more towards product design students with an interest in designing the overall user experience of visitors and volunteers. The other internship is geared more towards visual communication students with an interest in designing large and small scale information visual graphics to tell the story of the farm and what it does, such as a timeline and an overall graphic that incorporates multiple elements. These internships would be a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience in a unique, dynamic project, as well as a chance to produce portfolio-ready pieces.
The position includes but is not limited to the following:
- Observing current use patterns at the farm
- Identifying opportunities for increased engagement and understanding
- Working with the biodiversity team on design requirements
- Developing ideas and prototypes
- Implementing the design, with the support of mentors at the farm
- Creating a feedback system/process that feeds into future design modifications
Qualifications and Experience:
This internship is a 10 hr/week commitment, for a minimum of 12 weeks. We are looking for someone who is eager to make a difference, using technology to build networks and connections between members of our community. The internship can be molded to fit whatever aspects you are excited to learn about.
